Harrisburg Area Community College changed my life. The professors focus on teaching and students, not tenure, creating a superior learning experience. Small class sizes and a diverse mix of ages and backgrounds make for a dynamic environment. Their graphic design and photography programs are top-notch—they even still have a darkroom! HACC gave me marketable skills I didn’t gain with a bachelor’s degree. That said, your mileage may vary—education is what you make of it. You have to show up, put in the effort, and do the work.

PARKING for FARM COMPLEX HORRIBLE! Drove 1 hour and 20 minutes first visit EVER this year REQUIRED handicap parking and underwent cancer surgery for the fourth time 2024 this week! Was made to wait in the frigid cold for shuttle over 24 minutes until just couldn’t wait any longer. In tears due to excruciating pain, my husband asked if I would rather just leave; and that we did! Road traffic person left post for break without any backup relievers, FIVE BUS DRIVERS at the end with buses out of commission while they took breaks!
Really? This is absolutely unacceptable! Any event venue or professional event organizers and organizations growing this fast with tens of thousands being bused in would undoubtedly have folks ready to relieve for breaks with literally portable heated buildings for these workers to be able to take their needed breaks BUT NEVER take working buses out of commission!! Be strategic! Be smart! Be prepared for the last day increase in visitor’s expectations in growth year over year parking especially! Have back up drivers ready to relieve those drivers for breaks especially with tens on tens of thousands of visitors.
Hire strategy planners, those who will an analyze necessities, from visitors to road traffic management to state patrol needs and their break to portable headed units, and even heated units for those visitors on worse care scenarios should weather get so low it’s needed like today. Me leaving in tears due to excruciating pain is the last thing you would have wanted much less me considering it would have been my first visit ever. Rethink your parking, have a strategy for every risk, mitigate all risk involved for those disabled individuals like myself. A true waste of $15 for the parking fee to not even get to enjoy what I have seen and heard is one of the best annual shows in Pennsylvania. Super sad as I sit here riding back home still as tears continue to fall.

I received an admission offer from HACC for the Spring 2025 semester since last year, with all required documents submitted through their portal well in advance. However, despite completing my application process and adhering to their requirements, I have sent several emails to the school without receiving any response. Today is January 10, 2025, and I have yet to receive any communication regarding my I-20 and other crucial documents needed for my visa interview.

I have made multiple attempts to reach out by phone, but every call goes straight to voicemail, and no one has followed up or responded to my inquiries. The lack of communication has been incredibly frustrating, especially considering how time-sensitive these processes are for international students.

Timely communication is essential in academic settings, particularly for international students navigating complex visa and enrollment procedures. Unfortunately, HACC's response rate to emails and calls is disappointing, causing unnecessary delays and stress.

Additionally, there appears to be no dedicated line or team to address the unique needs of international students. This absence makes it even more challenging to obtain the guidance and support required to successfully complete enrollment and immigration processes.

HACC would greatly benefit from improving its communication practices and establishing a dedicated support system for international students. Doing so would not only enhance the experience for students like me but also reflect a commitment to fostering an inclusive and responsive academic environment.

This is my daughter's first year of college and it couldn't have been a worse experience. They are holding up the sign up process for Spring semester because they don't have a physical office. They send letters and repeated emails about your financial aid asking you to call and then when you call they say there is no phone dedicated to financial aid, no financial aid office. Email folks, that's the only way to contact them. So inefficient. They also stare they MAY take up to three weeks to get back to you which is also the best time from my personal experience. I've gone back and forth with different staff and everyone just passes the buck and nothing gets done. What an absolute fail. I wouldn't recommend anyone sign up here. I'm still waiting on answers since August from financial aid. Looks like my daughter will not be able to sign up for Spring at this point. What a joke.

Unprofessional Work Environment Working for this company is a frustrating experience due to the lack of proper training and the constant disrespect from both colleagues and management. Employees are thrown into tasks without the necessary guidance, leading to confusion and inefficiency. Additionally, the culture here is toxic, with little regard for professional behavior or respect. You’re often forced to apologize to the entire group, which is highly unprofessional, and they frequently downgrade you in front of other employees, damaging morale and creating an uncomfortable atmosphere. Communication is poor, and any concerns raised seem to be dismissed or ignored. It’s disheartening to be in a place where employees aren't valued, and the overall culture feels toxic. Unless there are significant changes in management and training, which management already stated " if you don’t like what we’re telling you, then this is not the right fit for you," instead of addressing issues or helping to improve. In my opinion, I can not recommend working here.

HACC has been giving me the opportunity to start college and be one of the first-generation college students in my family to graduate soon. Despite some flaws, it is still a good college with good professors. I wish I had more time to attend in-person, but virtual learning has been good to me and allows me to work full-time, both as a college student and employee. Thanks to my professors so far for allowing a full-time worker to also have a college experience, I never thought I’d have this after graduating high school. I believe attending this school was one of the best choices I’ve made.

This school is a joke. I've had teachers who spend the entire class period talking about celebrities, tried to talk to financial aid on campus only to find a sign on a piece of paper saying they're only available on zoom, and have called and waited 20 minutes for them to answer the phone.

They don't update their website with registration dates, and when you point this out to them they tell you to find a different page that they do update.

I found out less than a month before classes started that they charged me $850 for an intro to business software class that was required for my degree, that I took two semesters before. I was not notified of this balance for 6 months until they sent it to collections. No letters, no notices on my account, no emails, nothing. This was a class that taught the difference between a laptop and desktop computer, what a windows operating system is, and how to save a file in word, type text (literally just type) into a word document, print, and do any other basic stuff in Microsoft products. $850 for this class. I wouldn't pay $50 for someone to teach me such common knowledge stuff. And again, this class is *required.*

In addition to this, HACC will refuse to give you YOUR transcript, which is YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION which BELONGS to you, if you owe them money. Withholding transcripts in an effort to collect debt is an unethical practice that is already banned in several US states, but not in PA. Without your transcript you can't apply to other schools, or some jobs.

I guarantee you there are better options than this school. In Lancaster alone, Millersville costs about the same and is far better.

This place used to be a great educational institution. If you are interested in any of the Workforce Development Programs TREAD with caution.
